In this Smart Home x Interior Design series, OnSmart Living (OSL) shares real project stories and insights to help interior designers and contractors understand how - and when - to integrate smart technology into their designs.

In this first edition, we take you behind the scenes of a condo project at The Seafront on Meyer, designed by TAG Studio, where timeless neoclassical style meets modern smart living.

Where timeless design meets smart living

At The Seafront on Meyer, a stunning condo with a neoclassical theme designed by TAG Studio, every detail speaks of elegance and comfort. The homeowner wanted a home that not only looked timeless but also lived smart - a space where lighting, ambience, and convenience worked in harmony.

For many interior designers, integrating smart technology into a classic or high-end design can feel tricky. Will the tech clash with the aesthetic? Will wiring or devices disrupt the look?

The key is timing. With the right plan, smart living can blend beautifully into any design - enhancing both the aesthetic and functionality of the space.

Why timing matters in smart home integration

Smart home integration isn’t just about choosing the right products. It’s about when and how you bring technology into your design process.

Install too early, and you might need to redo wiring when the layout changes. Plan too late, and you risk disrupting finished carpentry or compromising on aesthetics.

Here’s a simple timeline that works for most projects:

  • Concept Stage → Discuss smart lighting and scene planning early.

  • Before Wiring → Confirm switch placements, device zones, and sensor positions.

  • Post-Renovation → Fine-tune automations, adjust lighting ambience, and test scenes.

This approach ensures everything fits perfectly - both visually and functionally.

The Seafront on Meyer project: integrating smart living into a neoclassical design

In this project, we collaborated closely with the TAG Studio team to bring smart living into a neoclassical home without disrupting its timeless charm.

The challenge? Create a seamless experience - where smart features elevate comfort and mood, yet remain invisible within the elegant design.

Our team worked hand-in-hand with the ID to plan smart wiring alongside interior works. Smart switches were chosen to match the decor, and devices were discreetly installed to maintain clean lines.

We built personalized smart scenes to fit the homeowner’s lifestyle:

  • Good Morning - Curtains open, lights brighten, air-con adjusts for the day.

  • Dinner Time - Warm lighting sets a cosy mood, background music fades in.

  • Movie Night - Curtains close, dimmed lights, TV and soundbar turn on.

  • Good Night - All lights off, security activated, door locks auto-check.

The result: a refined living space that feels effortless, modern, and perfectly aligned with the design intent.

Notes for interior designers & contractors

Every successful smart home project starts with early collaboration.

Here are a few lessons from this project:

Discuss early - Bring smart planning into your design conversations from day one.

Coordinate before wiring - Avoid rework by finalizing layouts before electricals.

Prioritize lighting - Smart lighting sets the tone and transforms ambience.

Partner with experts - A reliable smart home team helps you save time and deliver seamless results.

Smart home technology isn’t just an add-on. It’s a design tool - one that helps you deliver premium experiences and future-ready spaces.
